Benagil Cave is located about 150 meters from the beach in Benagil, a small and quiet fishing village. For years, Ocean water has eroded this sandstone cliff to create a beautiful cave that holds a small beach inside. The sandy shore stretching inside the Cave is about 100 meters long and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
A detail that makes this site even more unique is the circular opening on the top of the Cave that looks like a dome from which the sun’s rays enter, making beautiful plays of light with the water inside. Benagil Cave can be reached by boat, by swimming from Benagil Beach or through other means. As a first step, it is important to know that to reach the Cave by swimming, one must be a trained and experienced swimmer because of the high tide and the strength of the currents.
Those who want to reach the Cave by boat, on the other hand, can use tours that take place in small boats that leave from the town of Benagil but also from Armação de Pêra, Marina de Lagoa, Albufeira and Portimão. An alternative to the boat may be to rent a kayak or to reach the cave by SUP.
